Kolstad Is Glad To Be Wolf Point Student

Although she got a late start in attending school in Wolf Point, senior Josie Kolstad definitely has more than her share of Wolf pride.
Kolstad started attending Wolf Point High School at the end of her freshman year, but both her parents graduated from the school as did many other family members. She is very glad that she made the decision to transfer to Wolf Point.
She said one of the main reasons she made the move was because of the many college courses that are available in Wolf Point. She jokes that another benefit is that Grandma Page provides her with many quality meals.
Another plus is that her other grandmother, Sharon Kolstad, is a teacher at Wolf Point High School.
“I always see her in the halls and get hugs,” Josie said.
She stays with her Grandmother Page rather than driving back to Glasgow when she has a late practice or if the weather is questionable. Sometimes, she spends additional time with her father, Dr. Jon Kolstad, on the days when he’s working out of his optometrist office in Wolf Point.
Her school activities include basketball, track, being secretary for the National Honor Society and serving as a class representative for student council.
She qualified for the Class B state track meet as a relay member last spring.
“Track is OK, but basketball tops it,” she said of ranking her favorite sports. Kolstad is a returning starter and one of the team leaders for this year’s girls’ basketball squad. “It’s more of a team work sport than individual elements,” Kolstad said of why basketball is her favorite activity.
She said her favorite class is college composition with teacher Douglas Evans.
“We don’t always agree, but it’s fun to argue with him,” Kolstad said.
She doesn’t have a favorite teacher, but she notes that Karli McGowan has helped her a great deal.
“If the class is fun, I like the teacher,” Kolstad added.
She plans to attend Montana State University.
“I like Bozeman. I don’t see myself at a smaller college. There’s a lot of activities there,” she said.
Her long-term goal is to become an eye surgeon. She says her dad talks often at home about his profession. Another possibility is going into a real estate field.
“I feel eyes are pretty interesting. Science has always been my favorite subject,” Kolstad said. “I definitely need a job where I can talk with people.”
