Wolf Point Excels At Top 10 Track Meet Wolf Point Excels At Top 10 Track Meet

It was a good night to be a member of the Wolf Point track program.

Three first-place performances highlighted one of, if not the best ever, Top 10 meet efforts by the Wolves. The action in Glasgow on Tuesday, May 4, featured the top 10 athletes in each of the events from northeastern Montana schools.

Wolf Point’s Jewel Olson finished first in the 400-meter dash with a school record time of 59.60 seconds. The record was held by Amanda Sansaver.

Olson also earned second- place honors in the 200 at 27.33 seconds.

The speedy senior explains that the 400-meter dash is her favorite race.

“I like the down stretch as everybody is yelling,” Olson said.

Zander Ackerman fought off a challenge from Circle’s Hayden Lockie to take first place in the 800 at 1.59.43.

“I knew he was going to come up on me,” Ackerman said. “Everything was hurting. I thought I was going to cramp up, but I won.”

The action ended with the Wolves finishing first in the 1600-meter relay at 3:41.55. Running the relay were Austin Wilson, Kaholo Toves, August Spotted Wolf and Ackerman.

A strong first leg run by Wilson provided an early lead for the Wolves in the relay. Ackerman trailed a Sidney runner in the final leg until the last 50 meters.

“I don’t know what I was thinking,” Ackerman said of his strong finish. “Maybe don’t let that big dude beat me.”

Distance runs were certainly a strong area for Wolf Point’s boys.

In the 1600-meter run, junior Ethan Blount finished third at 4:54.08 and freshman Peyton Summers took fourth at 4:54.47. The two runners had personal bests in the race. Kholby Spotted Wolf took sixth at 4:58.64.

In the 3200, Summers placed second at 10:43.08, K. SpottedWolf was third at 10:46.49 and Blount took fifth at 10:55.70.

Wilson, a senior, finished fourth in the 400 with a time of 53.74 seconds.

On the girls’ side, a big bright spot was sophomore Katelyn MacDonald placing fourth with a best of 105-2.
