Froid School Works To Cope With COVID-19 Challenges

To maintain on a good path during the school closures because of the coronavirus crisis, the Froid School board held a special meeting on Thursday afternoon, March 26.

During the brief meeting, trustees passed its COVID-19 plan of action to be submitted to the governor’s office.

Froid superintendent of schools Janessa Parenteau told the Community News, “We’re trying to use as much technology as possible with Google Classroom.”

Parenteau said she and the school board couldn’t ask for better support than they have been receiving.

“The workforce and community have really responded well with what we’ve been trying to do,” Parenteau said. “They have been so supportive.”

One change statewide is that school districts have more flexibility with transportation funding in order to assist different areas such as technology.

“It also helps to pay for other staff needs,” Parenteau explained.

After initially closing Montana schools through March 27, Gov. Steve Bullock extended the order through April 10.

“Montanans have an obligation to slow the spread of this virus. Our fellow Montanans can all continue to set a good example for each other in adhering to social distancing directives — and know that it will save lives,” Bullock said. “For every person who stays at home and avoids non-essential gatherings, the better our chances to fight this virus and protect our frontline health care workers and emergency responders.”
