A grand opening for the new playground equipment at Borge Park and a Back to School Blast will run from 4:30-7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 22, at the park. The Wolf Point Lions Club’s members decided to start the project of raising funds for much-needed new playground equipment for the park about a year and a half ago. Roosevelt County is one of Montana’s top counties when it comes to born-and-bred residents, according to the U.S. Census Bureau data. Roosevelt County ranks sixth with 8,433 of its 11,091 residents born in Montana. That’s a rate of 76 percent. Current plans are to renovate the tribal jail in Poplar in order to create a safer facility. Charles Headdress, tribal vice chairman, said the hope is that federal funds can be used for the project. Right now, the sheriff’s office is struggling to fill those critical positions. At fully staff, the office has 10 dispatchers. Roosevelt County commissioners approved an addition to the county’s cattle guard resolution, which was originally approved in February.
