Legislators Consider Reducing Bars’ Liability

Bars would face less civil liability for accidents resulting from overdrinking under a bill heard on Jan. 10. As it stands now, under what is known as “dram shop law,” establishments selling or distributing alcoholic beverages can be fined damages, if the consumer was less than 21 years-old, was visibly intoxicated or if the establishment in some way coerced alcohol consumption. Legislators Discuss Human Trafficking Proposal

Sen. Jodee Etchart, R-Billings, told the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, Jan. 11, that according to stats from the Department of Justice, human trafficking in Montana has risen roughly 300 percent from 2021 to 2022. Etchart said that is why she is sponsoring House Bill 112, which supporters say would address the issue and strengthen the state’s ability to prosecute those found guilty

Wolf Point’s girls’ basketball squad took control in the fourth quarter for a 5138 victory in Glendive on Thursday, Jan. 12. Ahead by a 34-30 margin entering the final period, the Wolves struck for the first four points of the fourth quarter on a basket by J’Elle Garfield off a pass from Katelyn MacDonald and a drive by Keeley Blount-Henderson.
