Every four years, an American president is elected and sworn in on Inauguration Day. What was once a brief ceremony requiring the president to take the oath of office has now turned into a daylong celebration, complete with speeches, parades and balls. Much of the activity, including the inaugural ceremony, takes place on Capitol grounds.
