Poplar Wrestling Working For Another Successful Season
After earning the second-place trophy at the divisional meet last season, Poplar’s girls’ wrestling squad is working for success again this campaign.
Replacing graduated state champion Angelina Escarcega will be a tough task, but the Indians do return five wrestlers that lettered last season.

Poplar Girls Shoot To Improve Throughout Basketball Season
Poplar’s girls’ basketball squad enters the season with the goal of contending for one of the top spots in District 2B.
Returning starters for the Indians include All-State performer Braelyn Nordwick, a senior, and freshman Journey Gourneau. Sharp-shooter Cammie Martell, a senior, is expected to return to action in January.

Poplar’s Boys’ Team Features New Coach This Season
Poplar’s boys’ basketball team has a new look this season with a different coach and needing to replace several starters from last year.
“Our goals are to improve every day and stay healthy,” Poplar Coach Scott Smoker said.
Smoker is a 2006 graduate of Poplar High School. He coached at the junior high level for four seasons and has coached independent teams for about 10 years.

Lustre’s Boys Aim To Contend In League, State
The Lustre Lions open their season looking to be one of the top Class C boys’ basketball squads again.
“It should be a fun year,” Coach Randy Reddig said. Returning starters for the Lions are senior Johnlee Pierre, sophomore Cam Reddig and sophomore Prestyn Klatt. Pierre and Reddig each earned All-State honors last year.
