Wolf Point’s girls basketball team fell behind early and lost its league contest at Malta, 50-35, on Saturday, Jan. 22. Malta took a 16-5 lead in the first quarter and held a 28-12 advantage at the half. The margin was 41-24 after three quarters of play. Several area wrestlers were ranked in the latest Class B state wrestling poll. Mason Garfield of Wolf Point ranks third at 205 pounds. The top two ranked wrestlers are Glasgow’s Kyler Hallock and Huntley Project’s Stran Selman. Jase Frederick of Poplar ranks third and teammate Navarjo Escarcega is fifth at 120 pounds. The Poplar wrestlers won the great majority of their matches during a mixer held in Forsyth on Saturday, Jan. 22. Highlights included Kameron Reum with a 3-0 record and Jacob Berger going 2-0 for the day. Posting 1-0 marks were Jazmin Gorder, Angelina Escarcega, Jase Frederick and Precious Keiser. Gage Berg had a record of 3-1 during the mixer.

Frazer’s girls’ basketball squad fell against Scobey, 5118, on Friday, Jan. 21. The Bearcubs were only behind by a 12-11 margin after the first quarter of action. Angel Nelligan scored five points for Frazer during the period. Scobey increased its lead to 27-13 at the half. The Spartans led 44-16 after the third quarter.
