The Poplar Indians dropped two tough conference basketball contests in Malta on Friday, Jan. 13.
In the boys’ game, the Indians were edged by a 63-59 final.
Poplar trailed 31-29 at the half, and Malta then added 16 points in the third quarter to grab a 47-40 lead.
The Indians outscored Malta by a 19-16 margin in the final period.

The 15th annual Poplar River ice fishing contest is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 4. Registration begins at 10 a.m. The contest runs from noon to 3 p.m.
There will be cash prizes for first, second and third place. Additional door prizes will also be awarded.
Entry fee is $10 per hole or three holes for $25. The largest fish, any species, wins.
