Poplar’s girls’ track team earned 22 points at the Baker Invitational on Saturday, April 17. The long-distance running ability of Jazmin Gorder highlighted Poplar’s efforts. The junior finished first in the 3200 with a time of 12:47.04. Gorder ran the 1600 in 5:53.43 for second place. Keandra Martell put together a solid meet. The senior finished fifth in the 100-meter hurdles at 19.23

After a couple early track meets, a couple of Wolf Point athletes have already qualified for the Class B state track and field meet. Jewel Olson a senior, has qualified in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.19 seconds. The needed time to qualify is 13.2 seconds. Anaconda’s Cora Pesanti has the best time in Class B at 12.87 seconds. Zander Ackerman, a senior, has qualified in the 3,200-meter

Several area wrestlers placed during the Brodie Gorder Memorial tournament held in Sidney. Poplar’s Angelina Escarcega earned first place at 98 pounds in the cadet division. Earning third place was Micha Eagleboy at heavyweight in the cadet division. Navarjo Escarcega took fifth place at 115 pounds in the schoolboy division.

Poplar native Hunter Azure lost his Ultimate Fighting Championship match in a split decision against Jack Shore on Saturday, April 3. The two judges going for Shore scored the fight 30-27. The other judge had Azure winning by a 29-28 margin. Azure accounted for more total strikes and significant strikes. Shore finished with the takedown advantage and had a higher percentage of total strikes.

Wolf Point’s golf team opened its season at the Shelby Invitational April 9. The Wolves earned sixth place in the team standings with a score of 199. Conrad took first with a 69 followed by Glasgow and Choteau. Trevin Boysum shot a 112 for 24th place to lead the Wolves. Logan Bushman had a 117 for 29th place. Gaige Bushman had a 127 for 34th place. Josh Bushman carded a 131 for 38th
