Jack Shamley was born to E.R. “Tuffy” Shamley and Delphia Unruh Shamley on Sept. 20, 1948, in Wolf Point Mont. He was the second of five children in the family. Jack grew up in Wolf Point, Mont., and attended grade school and graduated high school in 1967. He passed on May 17, 2026. He served in the Navy on the Swift boats for 2½ years and, after being honorably discharged, he went home to Wolf Point and joined the local police department. He later received his degree in police science and continued onto the Lewis and Clark County Sheriff's Office, from which he retired after a combined 36 years in law enforcement work. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; a younger brother, Brian; younger sister, Dixie; and his bride and the love of his life, Mary. He is survived by his son, Jeffrey (Jennifer); daughter, Jessica of Helena, Mont.; son, T.J. Shamley of Flagler Beach, Fla.; sister, Darla (Terry) Simmons of Tacoma, Wash.; brother, Andy (Natalie) of Loveland, Colo.; brother-inlaw, Jamie Fadness in Lewistown, Mont.; and grandchildren, Melissa (Deven) Boice, Caleb (Ellie) Shamley, Audrey Robinson, Jacob Robinson, Matthew (Abbey) Robinson, Mary Ann Robinson Katie Robinson and Jerimiah Tuffy Shamley. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Harper and Lydia Robinson, Bodie and Parker Boice, and Jackson Robinson. Jack was a born-again Christian, being brought to the Lord in 1982 by Auntie Fee and also received the gift of the Holy Spirit. Funeral services were held May 29, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at the Fortress of Joy Church at 720 Faw Rd in Helena, Mont., with interment at 3 p.m. at the Veterans Cemetery at Fort Harrison with Mary. A reception was held at the Fox Ridge Golf Course following the interment. Lydia Louise Long Hair Porcupine Quills, 78, of Fort Kipp died Sunday, May 31, 2026, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Billings. She was born Aug. 31, 1947, to Johnson Long Hair Porcupine Quills and Ursula Black Dog in Poplar. Growing up, she enjoyed being outdoors, horseback riding, going to powwows, also participating in church activities at the Catholic church in Fort Kipp and playing softball. She attended Brockton School until the eighth grade, then quit to take care of their mother as she fell sick. When she got older, she was a cook for a period of time at the Brockton School. In September 1975, her son, Wesley Long Hair, was born. Three years later, a daughter, Natalie Long Hair, was born. She was a family-oriented person who enjoyed life to fullest and loved being with her family especially her children and all her grandchildren. Her many talents included quilting, beading and baking. She always loved participating in the Fort Kipp Celebration fundraisers and any other fundraisers or events she was asked to partake in. Later in her life, she enjoyed traveling to all her grandchildren’s sporting events, watching cooking shows and watching or listening to powwow music on YouTube. She is survived by her sister, Cecelia “Ceya” Long Hair Porcupine Quills; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her children, Wesley Long Hair and Natalie Long Hair; sisters, Velma Broken Leg, Corrine Turning Heart, Della Thomas and Marie Long Hair; brothers, Nathaniel “Cowboy” Long Hair and Robert Black Dog; grandsons, Anthony Follette, Brandon Long Hair, Adam Black Dog and Christopher Black Dog; and granddaughters, Kendra Bets His Medicine, Chasity Black Dog and Courtney Black Dog. Her funeral service is being planned for Friday, June 12, at the James Black Dog Center in Fort Kipp at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in the Fort Kipp Cemetery.

Mark LaJune Eliason, 22, died June 1, 2026, in Stanley, N.D. He was born Sept, 17, 2003, in Glasgow to Matt Eliason and Christy Peterson. He received his early education at Glasgow Elementary and Middle Schools. A proud member of Scottie Nation, he graduated from Glasgow High School in May 2022. He loved Scottie Football and enjoyed days at Fort Peck Lake. He was most happy playing football, basketball, baseball and hanging out with his friends and family. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and silly adventures with his friends, but his favorite pastime was annoying his sisters, Samantha and Kacie. One of his best traits was sticking up for others who were being picked on. He worked various construction jobs in Glasgow, including masonry, concrete and other odd jobs. These eventually led to the job he loved working in the oil fields in North Dakota. He is survived by his father, Matt (Genevieve) Eliason; mother, Christy Peterson; sisters, Samantha Pittman and Kacie Pittman; brother, Nicolas Solorzano; grandparents, Sally (Dennis) Figmaka, Steve Bledsoe and Myrtle Pittman; and great-grandmother, Lou Korchendorfer. A memorial service was held Tuesday, June 9, at the First Lutheran Church in Glasgow.

Sheryn Ann Gackle, 78, of Brockway, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2025, at the Glendive Medical Center in Glendive. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 19, at the First Lutheran Church in Circle. Interment will follow in the Riverview Cemetery in Circle.
