Daniels County Approves Family Tree Project

The Daniels County commissioners held their regular meeting Monday, Oct. 19. Representatives with the Bureau of Land Management addressed the commissioners via Zoom about Bridger Pipeline planning. BLM estimated that there would be no additional substantive analysis of the project available for review until December.

John Bach with Interstate Engineering spoke to the council via phone. He provided information about the Building Resilient Bridges program, which includes funding opportunities with no outof- pocket replacement costs to the county at a 20 percent match. Bach said the project would likely be adopted in Roosevelt and Valley counties and said he would be back with more information in April.

Propane tank lease renewals with Pro Co-op were reviewed and signed.

Planning board secretary Mary Nyhus presented a draft version of new zoning code policy for review. Nyhus itemized provisional changes to existing policy. Tammi Fladager spoke about the Daniels County Family Tree project in the works at the library and a grant application currently in process with the Montana Historical Society. The project is expected to make genealogical information available and accessible to area residents at an interactive kiosk station at the library. The library board also approved the project.

“The idea is to bring the youth and the seniors together,” Fladager said. A motion was approved supporting the project.

Follow up discussion was held regarding a digital records resolution. A motion was presented with language securing digital meeting recordings as permanent public records. The motion was tabled for further discussion.

Fire Chief Neil Holum spoke to the commissioners about a $50,000 grant opportunity with funding that can be used for a fire truck, rescue equipment or other items.

Holum said funds could be used to improve and stock a trailer dedicated for rescue operations. No action was taken.

The next meeting is set for Nov. 2 in Scobey.
