Scobey Council Approves Mill Street Closure

The Scobey City Council held its regular meeting Tuesday, Sept. 22. Council Member Brian French (Ward 2) was absent, but a quorum was reached.

A public hearing was held for purpose of replacing Chapter 15.16 of the municipal code regarding fire limits, reconciling municipal standards with current state law. No public comment was offered.

The council approved the partial closure of Mill Street near the 100 block on Oct. 3-4, for the purposes of removing two cottonwood trees.

The public works report included a request to use the baseball field for flag football. An agreement is being prepared.

A motion was approved for the addition of a shed/ garage at 206 B Street.

The 50/50 sidewalk replacement program was approved as written, with minor changes to language regarding state and federal requirements. The program covers up to $2,000 for individual handicap accessible projects.

The council discussed policy related to alley encroachment issues like overgrown bushes and shrubbery. No action was taken. “We’re going to take a good look and try to correct the worst spots,” said Mayor Morgan Lekvold.

The boiler inspection report was discussed. No action was taken. An amendment was approved for agreement with Daniels County creating a public safety commission for consolidated law enforcement services.

The council discussed policies, fees and forms for public records requests. Draft language for a resolution is pending.

Regulations for subdivision developments were discussed. Additional information is expected at the Tuesday, Oct. 13, regular meeting.
