Bainville Squad Edges Cowgirls
The Culbertson Cowgirls had their homecoming crowd behind them from the first set to the last against the Bainville Lady Bulldogs.
The student cheering section was full and loud as the Cowgirls battled through three close sets. Bainville won the match 25-21, 2519 and 25-22, but Culbertson kept the Lady Bulldogs within reach throughout the night.
The Cowgirls opened with a 25-21 loss and continued to compete in the second set, which Bainville took 25-19. With their classmates still cheering, Culbertson made its closest push in the third. The Cowgirls finished just three points behind, 25-22.
Emma Berwick helped lead Culbertson with five kills, six digs and two blocks. Ally Simonsen recorded a teamhigh 12 digs, along with a kill and an assist. Kalia Featherston added nine digs, two kills and five assists.
Bella Petersen contributed 11 assists and seven digs for the Cowgirls. Charity Wilbanks finished with two kills, four digs and a block, while Stella Fox had two kills, two digs and an assist.
Bainville’s Casey Myers led the Lady Bulldogs with 11 kills, six aces and two blocks. Annalyce Sorenson added nine kills and five aces, Sophie Portra recorded 25 assists, and Jodi Albus had two blocks.
The Lady Bulldogs left with a straight-set victory. For the Cowgirls, the homecoming match was also a chance to play in front of a gym filled with familiar faces, a loud student section and the sound of the pep band.
