Wolves Knock Off Malta

The Wolf Point Wolves surprised Malta, 25-10, 25-19, 25-21, in home volleyball play on Saturday afternoon.

The Wolves led the conference match by a 16-10 margin in the first set and increased the gap to 20-10 on a block and serves by Ma’Kenzie Jackson.

After a spike by Addy Smith was good for a point, the Wolves ended the first set with two aces by Jackson.

An ace by McKinlee Paulson and a kill by McKenzie Rodenberg helped Wolf Point gain a 13-9 advantage in the second set.

After Malta pulled even at 16-16, the Wolves responded with two net winners by Jackson and an ace by Paulson. Jackson served up an ace for a 2217 advantage.

A kill by Anna Matejovsky produced a 24-18 lead for the Wolves as they scored a 25-19 victory.

In the third set, Malta took an early lead but three straight aces by Rodenberg cut the margin to 7-6.

Wolf Point tied the score at 12-12 on a block by Rodenberg. The Wolves then gained a 15-13 lead on a hit by Matejovsky and a block by Rodenberg.

With the set deadlocked at 16-16, the Wolves struck for three straight points on a kill by Jackson, a spike by Smith and an ace by Mattie Azure.

A kill by Smith gave the Wolves a 19-16 advantage.

Ahead by a 23-21 margin, Wolf Point ended the match with a hit by Smith and a point on Maia Kent’s service.

The Wolves will travel to Glasgow on Thursday, Sept. 17.
