Tough Enough To Wear Pink Raises Funds, Promotes Fun
Area golfers turned out at the Wolf Point Airport Golf Course for a day of socializing and bragging rights while benefiting a great cause on Thursday, July 9.
The annual Stampede Roundup Tough Enough To Wear Pink golf tournament attracted 21 teams. New this year is that HUB Insurance is serving as the tournament’s sponsor.
HUB Insurance representative Scott Keen thanks Easton Copenhaver for organizing the tournament. The nine-hole scramble features four-person teams.
“It runs itself,” Copenhaver said of the tournament. “We see a lot of people who aren’t golfers. They are here to have fun.” Copenhaver is the board president of the Wolf Point Airport Golf Course, This year’s tournament raised $1,720 for local breast cancer awareness.
Tough Enough to Wear Pink provides a nationally- recognized campaign and framework for rodeos and western events to help them promote breast cancer awareness and fundraising to benefit their local communities.
Aaron Kurokawa said he has golfed in the tournament for about 10 years.
“A big part of it is awareness,” Kurokawa, who now resides in Billings, said. “It’s also great seeing people when I come back to town.”
Jan Bryan said she started the golf tournament around 2012, but originally it wasn’t associated with Tough Enough To Wear Pink. At that time, she was a board member for the golf course and wanted an event there during Stampede week.
“I started it for the golf course to get some people out here,” Bryan said. “I wanted people to bring their golf clubs to town.”
In about the third year, Bryan combined the tournament with Tough Enough to Wear Pink awareness.
Bryan stepped down as the tournament’s organizer a couple of years ago, but she still has fun golfing in the tournament.
“I think one year we had 26 teams,” Bryan said. “It’s always had a good turnout.”
