The skies turned brown on Thursday, May 14, due to a bad dust storm that hit Lustre before breakfast and lasted all day. About 4 p.m., it lessened enough for students to be picked up at school, as the busses were not running. Highway 2 closed from Dodson to the North Dakota border by 2:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. and visibility was terrible most of the day in all the area.
The LCHS girls (score of 123) and the LCHS boys (score of 168) athletes in track both took first place at the District 3C Track Meet in Glasgow on May 12. Head coach, Lynn Unrau noted that the LCHS girls track team took first place for the first time since 2004, the only other time LCHS had that honor. She said, “The kids did really well.”
The Junior High Track teams for District 3C was also on May 12, and LGS boys team came in second place, with Gunner Damboise coming in first in high jump, long jump (meet record of 17’5.5”), and triple jump (meet record of 38’)! Justin Schiller, Coleman Hilkemann, Liam Reyneke and Jo Olfert came in first in the 4x100 relay, all personal records. The LGS girls track team placed third in the district meet, with Ava Holzrichter placing first in 100m and 300m hurdles, and Harlo Reddig first in triple jump. The kids had fun and it was a beautiful day for the meet.
