Wolves, Indians Place At Indoor Track Meet
Wolf Point and Poplar’s track athletes each performed well at the Scobey and Glasgow indoor meet held in Williston, N.D., on Thursday, April 2.
Poplar’s boys earned sixth in the team standings with 28 points while Wolf Point was ninth with 23.5 points.
Wolf Point and Poplar tied for eighth in the girls’ standings with 21 points each.
Sean Hamilton, a senior, led Wolf Point’s boys at the meet. Hamilton earned top honors in the javelin at 143-6 and second place in the shot put at 42-8.
Tavian Bell cleared 8-6 for fifth place in the pole vault. Damari Martinez cleared 5-6 to place fifth in the high jump.
Wolf Point’s boys’ 1600-meter relay team featuring Bell, Reilly Rees, Andrew Williamson and Martinez finished fifth with a time of 4:20.01.
Kayden Charette took seventh in the triple jump with a best of 36-2. Rees finished eighth in the 1600 at 5:21.53.
Addy Smith had a solid meet for Wolf Point’s girls. The sophomore finished second in the 400-meter dash at 1:04.94 and third in the 60-meter dash at 8.61 seconds. She was eighth in the long jump at 15-1.
Anna Matejovsky placed fifth in the 60 at 8.74 seconds, took fifth in the triple jump at 30-11 and cleared 7-0 for sixth place in the pole vault.
The girls’ 800-meter relay team consisting of Matejovsky, Smith, Harper Weeks and Kenzley Copenhaver finished fifth at 2:04.75.
Amya Martinez was seventh in the shot put at 30-5. Layla Headdress finished seventh in the 1600 at 6:29.38. Weeks cleared 4-4 for eighth place in the high jump.
Poplar’s boys’ 3200-meter relay team featuring Wilder Bearcub, Jayden Eder, Raylando Red Eagle and Issac Irizarry finished first with a time of 9:34.94.
Bearcub cleared 5-8 for second place in the high jump.
Ryder Olson took fourth in the long jump at 18-7 and fourth in the triple jump at 38-3. Bearcub was sixth in the triple jump with a best of 365.
Eder finished sixth in the 1600 at 5:21.05.
Poplar’s girls’ 3200-meter relay team of Kellyn Azure, Alara Cooper, Mila Gramling and Amelia Weeks finished first with a time of 12:01.90.
Azure placed third in the 1600 at 6:06.82 and sixth in the 800 at 2:45.82. Grambling took fourth in the 1600 at 6:07.42.
Lilliana O’Neal was ninth in the shot put with a mark of 30-1.
