After an exciting and tight opening 11 minutes, Lustre’s boys’ basketball team pulled away for an 81-42 quarter- final round victory over Brockton at the Eastern C tournament on Thursday, March 5.

The Warriors gained a 10-9 lead late in the first quarter on a 15-footer by Tefton Bear and a drive by Josh Firemoon, but Lustre ended the period with a three-pointer by Joel Reddig and a pull-up jumper by Prestyn Klatt for a 14-10 advantage.

Brockton enjoyed a strong start in the second period as an inside shot by Colter Nygard, a fast-break hoop by Josh Firemoon and a three-pointer by Ronnie Black Dog resulted in a 17-14 lead.

The Lions then got hot from three-point range to start taking control of the contest. Three-pointers by Klatt, Chris Traeholt and Cam Reddig led the way. A steal and drive by Johnslee Pierre put the margin at 25-17.

Brockton fought back with a free throw by Firemoon and a jumper by Miles Boxer, but Lustre kept rolling with two more three-pointers by Traeholt and a dunk by Pierre for a 33-20 lead. Lustre held a 3822 half-time advantage.

With the score at 41-28 early in the third quarter, the Lions struck for the game’s next 17 points for a 58-28 margin. Klatt knocked down two three-pointers during the streak while C. Reddig added a long shot. J. Reddig scored four points during the run.

Lustre led 70-32 at the end of the quarter.

Reaching double figures for the Lions were Klatt with 16, J. Reddig with 15, C. Reddig with 15, Traeholt with 14 and Pierre with 10. Also scoring were Hadden Olfert with six and Diek Olfert with five points.

Brockton’s top scorers were Firemoon with 12 and Boxer with 11 points.

Rounding out the scoring were Black Dog with eight, Bear with four, Nygard with four and Jarid FastHorse with three.
