Lustre Girls Down Frazer At Tournament
Lustre girls’ basketball team rebounded from a slow start and beat Frazer, 8359, in the first round of the District 3C tournament in Glasgow on Wednesday, Feb. 18.
The hot-shooting Bearcubs jumped out to 7-0 and 10-1 leads during the early going.
The Lions responded to earn a 25-12 advantage at the end of the period.
Two three-pointers by Lauryn Holzrichter and a basket by Lauren Fast got Lustre off to a good start in the second quarter to build the lead to 38-14.
Three-pointers by Isabelle Fourstar and Elli Mail late in the half pulled the Bearcubs to 42-22. Holzrichter hit a pair of free throws for a 44-22 half-time margin.
After the Lions increased the gap to 60-29, Frazer’s Bri-Anne Beston scored seven of the game’s next 10 points to cut the gap to 63-36. Lustre enjoyed a 65-35 advantage at the end of the period.
The Lions added 18 points in the fourth quarter, including eight by Ava Holzrichter, for an 83-59 final.
Reaching double figures for the Lions were L. Holzrichter with 22, Kencia Brown with 14 and Samantha Neufeld with 11 points.
Also scoring were A. Holzrichter with eight, Lauren Fast with seven, Hannah Brown with six, Sidney Klatt with five, Tessa Olfert with three, Harlo Reddig with three, Grace Byers with two and Ashtyn Traeholt with two.
Top scorers for Frazer were Beston with 20 and Fourstar with 17 points.
Rounding out the scoring were Cassidy Mail with nine, Bethany Hotomanie with nine and Elli Mail with four.
