Despite a strong comeback in the third quarter, the Culbertson Cowgirls fell against Savage, 41-31, at home on Friday, Jan. 23.

The Cowgirls trailed 12-2 at the end of the first period and by a 20-14 half-time margin.

Culbertson cut the margin to 23-21 on a drive by Anna Steppler and tied the game at 23-23 on a 15-footer by Ivy Colvin to end the third quarter.

Aspen Peterson led Savage to a 29-23 to open the fourth quarter.

A steal and layup by Payton Labatte pulled the Cowgirls to 29-25, but the Warriors scored the next five points.

A drive by Leandra Perkins brought the Cowgirls as close as 33-27 with 3:03 remaining. Savage led 40-29 with 55 seconds to play. Culbertson’s top scorers were Steppler with eight, Perkins with seven and Colvin with six.

Also scoring were Emma Berwick with four, Kalia Featherston with three, Labatte with two and Charity Wilbanks with one. Peterson scored 21 points for the Warriors.
