Wolves Lose Close Contest To Plentywood, 49-47
Wolf Point’s boys’ basketball squad put together a strong comeback in the fourth quarter but lost to Plentywood by a 49-47 final on Friday, Jan. 16.
The Wolves trailed 40-32 at the end of the third quarter and by a 44-32 margin early in the final period.
Wolf Point fought back with a three-point play by Richard Campbell off a pass from Jett Azure with 6:15 to play. Sean Hamilton then fired in a three-pointer to pull the Wolves to 44-38.
After Plentywood’s Landon Flickinger hit a three-pointer, the Wolves responded with another three-pointer by Hamilton and a basket by Zandon Calder for a 47-43 game.
Wolf Point pulled to 47-45 when Campbell scored off a rebound with 50 seconds remaining.
The Wolves then tied the game, 47-47, on a basket off a rebound by Calder.
The Wildcats, however, regained the lead when Flickinger made two free throws with 15 seconds left. The Wolves missed on their final three-point try.
Top scorers for the Wolves were Hamilton with 13, Calder with 10 and Campbell with nine.
Also scoring were Stone Lilley with six, Andrew Williamson with three, Azure with three and Brady Four Bear with three.
Leading Plentywood were Flickinger with 19, Tryan French with 12 and Andy Kaul with nine.
The Wildcats led 10-4 at the end of the first quarter. The margin was increased to 10 points in the second quarter until two straight baskets by Calder.
A three-pointer by Lilley pulled the Wolves to 32-24 at the half.
Plentywood led by as many as 11 points in the third quarter. Hamilton hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to cut the gap to 40-32 at the end of the period.
