Property Tax Reduced Rate Applications Open
Montana homeowners can now apply for the 2026 homestead reduced rate. To qualify, you must attest that you will own and live in your Montana home as your principal residence for at least seven months during 2026.
When applying, you will need to provide:
• The property’s physical address
• The property’s geocode; and
• The names and Social Security numbers of the property owners Homestead Tax Rates
A property that qualified for and received the 2025 property tax rebate will automatically qualify for the 2026 homestead reduced tax rates if:
• The ownership of the property has not changed, and
• The property continues to be used as your primary residence.
To verify whether your property is already enrolled to receive the homestead reduced rate in 2026 or to apply for the homestead reduced rate, visit homestead.mt.gov. Long-term Rental Owners
Qualifying property owners can now apply for the long-term rental reduced rate. To qualify as a long-term rental, the property must be rented to tenants as their residence for periods of 28 days or longer for at least seven months of the year.
When applying, you will need to provide:
• The property’s physical address
• The property’s geocode
• The names and social security numbers or FEIN of the property owners; and
• The total income and expenses for the rental property, including the amount of monthly rent received per unit.
