Poplar’s boys’ basketball squad posted its first league of the season when the Indians downed Fairview, 50-46, in Poplar on Saturday, Feb. 8. After regulation ended at 41-41, the Indians struck quickly in overtime on a three-point play by Wilder Bearcub. After a 15-footer by Tyler Loan cut the margin to 44-43, the Indians responded with a three-pointer by Dane Moran with under two minutes

Brockton’s boys’ basketball team stepped up in the second half to edge Culbertson, 64-55, at home on Saturday, Feb. 8. The Cowboys trailed 19-16 at the end of the first quarter, but the score was deadlocked at 30-30 at the half. Brockton scored 16 points in the third period for a 4641 advantage. The Warriors then accounted for 18 points in the fourth period to earn the conference victory.

The Frazer Bearcubs knocked off Dodson, 49-31, in girls’ basketball action on Saturday, Feb. 8. The Bearcubs jumped out to a 13-2 lead in the first quarter and increased the gap to 32-9 at the half. Leading Frazer’s attack were Baily Beston with 14 and Audrey Smoker with 13 points. Isabelle Fourstar and Bri-Anne Beston added seven points each. Dodson won in the boys’ game by a 74-43

The Wolf Point Wolves dropped both conference basketball contests against strong Malta squads on Friday, Feb. 7. Wolf Point’s girls came up short by a 63-41 final spread. The M-ettes gained an 1811 lead in the first quarter and increased the gap to 34-17 at the half. Malta outscored the Wolves by a 14-8 margin in the third quarter. Brenna Blount scored 12 points to lead Wolf Point.
