Lustre’s girls basketball squad fought off Terry, 50-39, in a closely contested battle to open the season on Friday, Dec. 5.

The Lions pulled even at 35-35 when Lauren Fast connected on a three-pointer at the buzzer to end the third quarter.

The Lions then enjoyed a good start to open the fourth quarter on an inside basket by Fast and a 17-footer by Sidney Klatt.

After Terry pulled to 39-37 on a drive by Ashley Eaton, the Lions gained control with six straight points on a steal and layup by Harlo Reddig, two free tosses by Samantha Neufeld and a running shot by Lauryn Holzrichter for a 45-37 lead with 2:23 remaining.

Lustre put the contest away in the final minutes on free throws by Fast and Klatt.

Top scorers for Lustre were Fast with 18 and Hannah Brown with 11.

Also scoring were Klatt with eight, Holzrichter with seven, Neufeld with four and Reddig with two.

Leading the Terriers were Carmen Lacquement with 14 and Eaton with 12 points.

The Lions trailed by an 7-5 margin at the end of the first quarter and by a 16-6 score midway into the second quarter.

Down by a 19-11 margin, Lustre battled back with a three-pointer by Holzrichter, a pull-up jumper by Fast and a free throw by Brown.

After Terry’s Lacquement hit a three-pointer, the Lions gained a 23-22 lead on a 14-footer by Fast and two shots by Brown. The half ended in a 25-25 deadlock.

Terry opened the third quarter with the first eight points, but Lustre responded with a three-point play by Fast and a 15-footer by Klatt.

Lustre’s girls’ basetball squad knocked off Plevna, 7334, at the Class C Showcase held in Glasgow on Saturday, Dec. 6.

Ahead by a 15-13 margin at the end of the first quarter, the Lions exploded for 29 points in the second period for a 44-18 lead. Samantha Neufeld scored 11 points in the quarter including hitting a three-pointer. Lauryn Holzricther added six points.

Lustre went on to score 17 points in the third quarter to increase the margin to 61-24 advantage. Neufeld had 10 points in the quarter.

Top scorers for the Lions were Neufeld with 28, Lauryn Holzrichter with 13 and Harlo Reddig with 10 points.

Also scoring were Sidney Klatt with eight, Tessa Olfert with four, Hannah Brown with four, Lauren Fast with two, Justice Byers with two and Ava Holzrichter with two.
