Lady Wolves Drop Contests

The Wolf Point girls’ basketball team put up a good fight but dropped its season opening against Hays/Lodge Pole by a 52-47 final in Great Falls on Friday, Dec. 5.

The Wolves trailed by a 14-12 margin at the end of the first quarter, but Wolf Point gained a 24-21 advantage at the half. Ma’Kenzie Jackson scored four points and Jori Lynn Blackeagle hit a three-pointer during the second quarter.

Hays/Lodge Pole accounted for 20 points in the third quarter to take a 41-33 advantage in the third quarter.

Wolf Point scored 14 points in the final period, but lost by the five-point margin. Two three-pointers by Blackeagle highlighted the fourth quarter.

Jackson and Blackeagle led the Wolves with 11 points each.

Also scoring were Mattie Azure with six, Cadence Boudin with four, Marley Moran with three, McKinlee Paulson with two, Addy Smith with two, Sophie Ricker with two and Amya Martinez with two.

Wolf Point’s girls’ basketball team lost a tough 61-59 decision against Lame Deer in Great Falls on Saturday, Dec. 6.

The Wolves held a 43-42 lead at the end of the third quarter and increased the margin to 47-42 on the scoring of Sophie Ricker to start the fourth period.

Wolf Point gained a 51-47 advantage on a baseline shot by Ricker and a drive by Jori Lynn Blackeagle with 5:25 remaining.

After Lame Deer grabbed a 53-52 lead, Mattie Azure accounted for three straight points and McKinlee Paulson drove in for a hoop to put the Wolves up 57-53.

The Wolves stayed in the lead until Lame Deer hit a three-pointer to take a 59-58 advantage with 43 seconds remaining.

After a steal, Wolf Point’s Harper Weeks made a free throw for a 59-59 deadlock with 13 seconds left.

Lame Deer won the game on a pair of free throws with eight seconds remaining.

The Wolves trailed 20-14 at the end of the first quarter.

The scoring of Marley Moran and Paulson highlighted Wolf Point’s play in the second quarter. The half ended at 29-29.
