Area Wrestlers Place At Sidney Tournament
Wolf Point and Poplar wrestlers each enjoyed success during the season-opening Eagle Invitational held in Sidney on Friday, Dec. 5, and Saturday, Dec. 6.
In the girls’ division, Wolf Point placed 10th with 69 points and Poplar took 11th place with 57 points. Spearfish, S.D., topped the standings with 215 points and Miles City placed second with 182 points.
Wolf Point’s eighth-grader Cali Gorder won the championship at 100 pounds. Gorder won all three of her matches on pins.
Anna Matejovsky, a freshman, placed second at 125 pounds. She won her first two matches on pins at 1:21 and 1:27. She was ahead by a 9-4 margin in the title match against Baker’s Kylie Schwartz before being pinned.
Paisley Brunner took seventh at 130 pounds. She won three of her five matches during the tournament.
Amiya Smoker earned eighth at 110 pounds. She won two matches on pins.
Leading Poplar’s girls was Liberty Boadle with a thirdplace showing at 120 pounds. She won four matches on pins at the meet.
Alara Cooper placed fifth at 115 pounds. She earned three pins at the tournament.
Placing sixth were Laityn Allen at 110 pounds and Samantha Black Eagle at 140 pounds. Kiaree White Hawk took seventh at 100 pounds. Harley Daniels placed eighth at 120 pounds.
In the boys’ tournament, Poplar scored 13 and Wolf Point had 12.5 points. Post Falls, Idaho, won the title with 220 points while Sidney finished second with 211 points.
Wolf Point’s Jesse Reed earned sixth place at 157 pounds. Reed won two matches at the tournament.
Colton Weyrauch earned fourth place at 150 pounds for JVs.
Poplar’s Jayden Eder took eighth place at 175 pounds.
Taking sixth for JVs were Grayson Cuellar at 157 pounds and Royal Crawford at 215 pounds.
