Ricker Competes In Ironman Triathlon

Area athlete Darryl Ricker competed in the Tri-Cities Ironman Triathlon in Richland, Wash., on Sept. 21.
The Ironman consists of a 1.2 mile swim, 56-mile bike ride and 13-mile run.
“I completed the swim in 35 minutes and completed 49 miles on the bike. But due to weather conditions, I was unable to make the bike cutoff,” Ricker said. “I competed for five hours and 30 minutes total. It was a great experience. Laura and I look forward to competing in next year’s Ironman, together.”
He trained for almost a year for the competition. “After having a stroke in 2022, I decided to compete in the Ironman to advocate for stroke victims and for those suffering from other debilitating diseases that affect Native Americans all over this country,” Ricker said. “It was an extraordinary experience and I am thankful to God and good friends who have supported this endeavor from the beginning.”
Among the people that he thanks are Rhonda Mason, Gale and Pat Hall, Robyn and Marvin Krall, Justin and Jen Keough, Greg Holler Dinsmore, Linda and John Grandchamp, Ruth Ironshield, Jessica Weeks, Pastor Coker, Pastor Mike and Caroline Adams.
