Meeting Planned Regarding Improving Wolf Point Location

A public meeting, through Zoom, is scheduled on Tuesday, Oct. 21, to discuss potential solution to an abandoned building at 108 Main Street Officials say the purpose of the meeting is to receive public comment regarding a proposed use of an EPA Brownfields Resolving Loan Fund. Plans are for the funds to abate hazardous substances and conduct a partial demolition to facilitate the redevelopment of the property.

The meeting will include an analysis of Brownfields Cleanup Alternatives for the abatement of hazardous materials.

Kelly Lacock, Brownsfield program coordinator, says that a sub grant of $191,000 has been awarded for the project to cover all costs of cleanup and demolition. The application was made on behalf of First Baptist Church, the property owner of the former VFW building.

“We’re really excited to do this project for the community of Wolf Point and to put another lot into good use,” Lacock said.

Once the project is completed, the church can redevelop the site to something that is usable and benefits the community.

Lacock noted the grants are intended for such projects where commercial buildings can be cleaned up.

Community members will have the chance to comment at the meeting. To obtain a link for the Zoom meeting or a call-in number, email projectadmin@ gndc.org. In addition, residents may submit written comment to projectadmin@gndc.org by Monday, Oct. 20.

The meeting is being presented by the Great Northern Development Corporation and the First Baptist Church.
