Lions Drop Match Against Fusion
The Lustre Lions fell short to a solid Richey/Lambert team during non-conference volleyball play in Richey on Friday, Oct. 10.
Lustre lost by a 16-25, 19-25, 11-25, final.
After the Fusion gained a quick lead in the first set, two kills by Lauryn Holzrichter pulled the Lions to 8-7. The net play of Aleah Fast and an ace by Samantha Neufeld kept Lustre close at 13-12.
The Fusion earned a 19-14 advantage, but a tip by Holzricther cut the gap to 19-15. Two kills by Addison Foss produced a 21-15 lead for Richey/Lambert.
Ahead by a 23-16 margin, the Fusion ended the first set on kills by Foss and Jade Boese Robbins.
The Lions battled back to 11-9 in the second set on a spike by Hannah Brown and an ace by Fast. Richey/Lambert went on to earn a 20-14 advantage on the strong net play of Jolee Klempel.
Lustre kept fighting back as a block and ace by Fast got the Lions as close as 22-19. Richey/Lambert tallied the last point of the second set on an ace by Jacqueline Barnhart.
After the Fusion gained a 17-6 cushion in the third set, the Lions scored on a kill by Holzrichter. The Fusion, however, were able to pull away and ended the third set, 25-11, on a block by Klempel.
