Cowboys Fall At Home To Scobey

The Culbertson Cowboys were unsuccessful in trying to slow down top-ranked Scobey on Saturday, Oct. 11. The visiting Spartans took a 40-0 half-time lead and defeated Culbertson by a 46-6 final.
Defensive plays by Culbertson’s Kaden Featherston, Micah Eagle Boy and Brooks Solem held Scobey on its first possession, but the Spartans drove 46 yards on their second drive. Scobey scored on a seven-yard run by Brecken Maher with 7:30 left in the opening period.
Scobey’s second score came on a 30-yard pass completion from Reese Tande to Evan Tande with 4:39 remaining in the period.
The Spartans were soon in scoring position again because of a 49-yard pass from R. Tande to Kolten Machart down to the Culbertson 17. After a pass from Tande to Bram Handran was good for a first down at the four, Machart reached the end zone with 55 seconds left in the first period.
Runs by Solem produced a first down for the Cowboys on their next possession, but Scobey’s Maher then intercepted a pass and raced 50 yards for a touchdown to put the margin at 32-0.
On its next possession, Culbertson advanced into Scobey territory on a nice pass play from Solem to Ian Snyder. The Cowboys, however, couldn’t keep the drive alive.
Scobey’s final touchdown of the half came on a 65-yard dash by Maher with 4:07 left in the second quarter.
The Spartans increased their lead to 46-0 on a 36yard run by Quinn Axtman with under five minutes left in the third quarter.
Culbertson’s score came on a 64-yard pass play from Solem to Snyder in the fourth quarter.
The Cowboys will travel to play MonDak on Friday, Oct. 17.
