The Poplar Indians came as close as 16 points in the second half but lost at home against MonDak, 62-22, on Friday, Sept. 19.

The Indians trailed 32-6 at the half, but they gained two points with about seven minutes left in the third quarter when MonDak was called for a holding penalty in its own end zone for a safety.

After a free kick, Poplar drove into MonDak territory on a pass play from Chasen Pribbernow to Chance Pribbernow along with running gains by Donald Iceman IV.

On first down from the six, the Indians reached the end zone on a throw from Chasen Pribbernow to Houston Eder. Anthony Youngman ran in the conversion to cut the margin to 32-16 with 5:04 left in the third quarter.

The Thunder responded with two quick touchdowns on a four-yard dash by Huntley Sorenson and a nine-yard run by Dilan Wade to increase the lead to 46-16 late in the third quarter.

After a nice kickoff return by Nathan Spotted Elk, the Indians scored on a 26-yard pass from Pribbernow to Youngman with 10 seconds left in the quarter to close the margin to 46-22.

MonDak, however, accounted for the game’s final 16 points on a short run and an interception return for touchdowns.

The conference game started with MonDak’s Wade returning the opening kickoff 64 yards for a touchdown.

The score remained 8-0 until Wade accounted for a 25-yard touchdown run on the last play of the first quarter. He also ran in the conversion for a 16-0 margin.

MonDak added to its lead when Wade connected with Owen Edwards on a threeyard touchdown pass with 7:27 left in the half.

The Thunder were in Poplar’s territory again until Poplar’s Clayton Montclair made a fumble recovery at the 38.

The running of Youngman and Eder led the Indians inside the MonDak 10. On second down from the one, Eder scored with 1:31 remaining in the half.

MonDak’s Draygen Buechler returned the ensuing kickoff 61 yard for a touchdown. Wade ran in the conversion for a 32-6 margin at intermission.

The Indians will travel to Forsyth on Friday, Sept. 26.
