Wolf Point Upends Poplar In Conference Volleyball Action


Wolf Point’s volleyball team posted a straight set victory in Poplar to earn its first conference win of the season on Thursday, Sept. 11.
The first set was even at 8-8 until the Wolves moved ahead on a block by Lauren Rodenberg and a kill by McKinlee Paulson.
The net play of Ma’Kenzie Jackson and serving of Rodenberg led Wolf Point to a 17-10 advantage.
Poplar, however, didn’t back down and battled back to 17-13 on an ace by Braelyn Nordwick and a kill by Lilliana O’Neal. An ace by O’Neal pulled the Indians to 18-17.
Poplar gained a 21-20 lead on a spike by Carsyn Fourbear, but the Wolves moved back ahead on a kill by Jackson and a spike by Marley Moran. The Wolves went on to win the set by a 25-22 final.
The Wolves jumped out to a 10-1 advantage in the second set with the serving of Moran and the net play of Adalynn Smith and Rodenberg leading the way.
Poplar was able to fight back to 15-7 on aces by O’Neal and a kill by Nordwick, but kills by Jackson increased the gap to 20-8. Rodenberg scored a kill to end the set at 25-12.
In the third set, Poplar earned a 14-8 advantage. Wolf Point was challenged when senior setter Moran left with an injury, but aces by Afton Hanks and Smith cut the margin to 16-13.
A kill by Fourbear put the Indians up 22-17 before the Wolves struck for three straight points on a kill by Anna Matejovsky and two aces by Maia Kent. Poplar moved ahead 24-21 on kills by Fourbear, but kills by Jackson and Smith led the Wolves to a 27-25 win.
The Wolves lost at Malta by a 17-25, 18-25, 16-25, final on Saturday, Sept. 13.
