The Wolf Point School Board approved an agreement with the Montana Department of Health and Human Services to help students with disabilities during its monthly meeting held on Sept. 8.

The pre-employment transition service program will be for students ages 14-21. The school will receive funds to provide the job training.

Services will include job exploration counseling, work-based learning experiences, counseling on postsecondary programs, workplace readiness training and instruction in self-advocacy.

Also during the meeting, trustees approved a new Creative Stitches, Wolf Point Sewing Club. Members will meet twice a month. Angela Swenson will serve as supervisor. Projects may involve items for the community such as sewing blankets for the nursing home.

“I think it’s a really cool club,” board chair Roxanne Gourneau said.

Adult meal prices were set at $3 for breakfast and $5.25 for lunch.

Trustees appointed to committees were Gourneau and Liara Braaten for district improvement, Michael Holen and Michael Turcotte for facilities and Keith Higgins and Trenton Wemmer for wellness.

Staff members hired were Arianna Mee for Southside paraprofessional, Andrea Jackson as junior high paraprofessional, Erika Small as Southside and Northside substitute teacher and Kylene Johnson as substitute teacher.

Extracurricular hires were June Petrik as concessions cashier, Kayla Messerly and Angela Swenson as co-advisors for Wolf People, Bridget Drummond as accompanist, Cole Hanks as high school assistant football coach, Dan Horsmon as head high school tennis coach, Nicole Paulson as assistant tennis coach, Lindsay Nefzger as junior high school tennis coach, Rodney Paulson as head high school golf coach, Jeremiah Whitright as assistant golf coach, T’Elle Evans as junior high school golf coach, Marques White Horse as head high school track coach and Scott Montgomery as assistant track coach. Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Perkins said an estimate to repair the roof at the district office is $49,523.

Junior high principal Tara Thomas reported that 95 students have attendance rates of 95 percent or higher. A new virtual reality class will be offered through a grant.

Facilities director Shane Reed said the track project is going along fine. Concrete was scheduled to be poured for three days last week. He is waiting for LED lights to arrive in order to providing lighting on the outside of the high school.
