The Culbertson/Bainville cross country team features the best turnout in many years.

The high school program includes 11 runners with five girls and six boys.

Among the athletes looking for solid seasons are Cal Steppler and Anna Stepper.

“The Steppler siblings, Cal and Anna, have put in quite a few miles this summer. I think they may hit the ground running strong,” Coach Chance Hyatt said.

Hyatt’s goal is for both the boys’ and girls’ teams to place in the top 10 at the state meet Returning runners for the girls’ squad include Rebekah Ellerkamp and Jade Lonebear.

“I’m not sure who the top Class C teams will be this year in our area,” Hyatt said. “Scobey’s boys and Brockton’s girls will be returning some tough kids, but there was a lot of overall talent that graduated last spring. So there could be some very interesting races this fall.”
