Boysun Likes Being Actor At Fort Peck

Wolf Point residents recognize Jacob Boysun as a popular teacher and for working behind the scene as a director for the high school’s dramatic performances.
During the summer months, however, Boysun is instead playing in front of the audience in performances at the Fort Peck Summer Theatre.
“This is only my second year performing at the theater,” Boysun explained. “I was a pirate in Peter Pan.”
This year, during the popular showing of Annie from July 5-20, he had more than one role to play.
“In Annie, I play Mr. Bundles, a butler, Santa Claus and Fred McCracken, a ventriloquist on a radio show,” he explained.
The Wolf Point native is looking forward to the musical Newsies, which runs at the summer theatre from July 25 to Aug. 10. Shows are 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 4 p.m. on Sundays.
“In Newsies, I play a police officer and Teddy Roosevelt,” Boysun said. “My favorite roles have been Fred because he’s a comedian and the police officer because of the fight scenes.”
He encourages young people interested in acting to check out the opportunities at the Fort Peck Summer Theatre.
“Some advice is get out there and audition. It’s a lot of fun and they always accept local actors,” Boysun said.
He added the experience has benefited him as a director at the high school level.
“It helps me a ton as a director because I can see how professionals manage their plays,” he said. “I’m always taking notes on how to make my productions better.”
He added that the Fort Peck Summer Theatre donated the high school’s drama department a coffin last year for the performance of Dracula and that he found someone to serve as the scenic designer for Sherlock Holmes last spring.
