Harvest Moon To Perform At Elks Friday

A veteran band will provide quality entertainment at the Wolf Point Elks Lodge from 9:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Friday, July 11.

Donnie Moran is one of Harvest Moon’s leaders despite being the young at heart age of 83 years old.

The band also features members from Williston, N.D., Plentywood and Poplar. Other band members include two natives of The Philippines, who are currently teaching at schools in Brockton and Poplar. The age of band members range from 27 to 83.

“We’ve just started,” Moran said of the band. “I’ve been playing for 60 years. I started in 1957.”

A special thrill on Friday night will be a guest appearance by a veteran keyboard player who has gained a good amount of national fame during his career.

Moran said the keyboard player has enjoyed a lot of hits. “He’s really personable,” Moran added. “I played in a band with him in 1964,” Moran said. “We’ve been blood buddies.”

Another highlight should be Misty Hobbs of Plentywood as the female leader singer.

“The girl has won all kinds of singing contests,” Moran said. “She’s a very talented girl.”

Other band members include Melvin Gorder of Poplar on keyboard and Orlan Olson of Richey.

Moran performs on the lead guitar, bass guitar and harmonica.

“I don’t use a cane either,” the 83-year-old musician joked.

The band plays a wide variety of music. “We play about about anything,” Moran said. Who is his favorite artist? “All of them,” he answered.

He encourages people to come down to the Elks for an entertaining time on Friday night. “I’m sure it will be good,” Moran said.
