The Fort Peck Tribal Law Enforcement reports that on Thursday, June 5, the body of a 16-year-old male was recovered from the Missouri River, near the rolloff site southeast of Poplar. Friends and family have identified the victim as Nick Diserly.

Diserly had entered the river from BIA Route 1, going into the south ditch, through a fence and eventually into the river on Tuesday, June 3. Law enforcement searched the area on boats and from the land nearby.

The following day, the search continued for the male and services from the Williams County, N.D., Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team were provided. Boats with sonar devices were deployed and the vehicle was located in the river near a boat ramp by a private residence south of BIA Route 1. Williams County officials advised that they would return the following day with their trained diving team.

On Thursday, the Williams County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Dive Team entered the water multiple times and was able to get a tow strap affixed to the vehicle the male was in. The vehicle was brought out of the water and the male was recovered inside of the vehicle. Clayton’s Memorial Chapel was on scene and provided services.
