Poplar Athletes Earn Honors At District Meet


The Poplar Indians scored 36 points in the boys’ division and 27 points in the girls’ division during the District 2B track meet held in Glasgow on Saturday.
The top six placers for each event qualified for the divisional track meet.
Kaniel Ricker highlighted Poplar’s day of the boys’ side with a personal best of 40-5 to earn the district championship in the triple jump.
Ryder Olson placed third in the triple jump with a personal best of 36-9 and took fifth place in the long jump with a mark of 17-5.
Javelin was a strong event for the Indians as Jaizon Grambling placed fifth with a personal best of 131-6 and Keilen Erickson earned sixth at 130-11.
Walker Burshia placed fourth in the shot mark with a mark of 43-1.
Jayden Eder finished fifth in the 3200-meter run at 11:34.8 and sixth in the 1600 at 5:21.98. Both times were personal bests for Eder.
Wilder Bearcub placed sixth in the 800 with a time of 2:19.26.
Both of Poplar’s boys’ relay teams qualified for the divisional meet. The 1600-meter relay team featuring Bearcub, Raylando Red Eagle, Olson and Eder took fourth at 4:20.71. The 400-meter relay team of Ricker, Red Eagle, Olson and Bearcub finished fifth at 50.63 seconds.
Journey Gourneau enjoyed a standout day for Poplar’s girls as the eighth-grader finished first in the 3200 at 12:51.84 and second in the 1600 at 6:00.76.
Lilliana O’Neal took fifth in the discus with a mark of 96--3. Braelyn Nordwick cleared 4-4 for sixth place in the high jump.
Alara Cooper ran the 800 in 2:44.89 for a personal best and sixth place. The junior placed sixth in the 3200 at 14:11.47 for another personal best time.
Amelia Weeks finished sixth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.51.
Poplar’s girls’ 400-meter relay team of Madison Knowlon, Nordwick, Paige GrayHawk and Emilyann Meyers placed fifth at 1:00.36. The 1600-meter relay team of Cooper, Meyers, Weeks and Gourneau took sixth at 5:09.40.
