Although he wasn’t completely satisfied with some of the results, Mike Bell’s senior year at Wolf Point High School featured many impressive athletic accomplishments.

The self-critical Bell feels he was capable of playing better during football season, but Bell earned All-Conference first team honors at defensive end.

“I was very pleased with his whole career,” Wolf Point’s football coach Anthony Red Cloud said.

Bell was a three-year captain and a four-year starter for the Wolves.

“By the end of the year, he was the only senior on the field,” Red Cloud said. “He was a great leader and great player for us.”

Bell said, “The team was young and will be better next year. They will be good next year. They should be solid.”

The senior said he especially enjoyed playing with teammates Zandon Calder, Sean Hamilton and Jesse Reed.

A highlight of the past season was stopping Shepherd, 6-0.

“That was a game,” Bell said. “It was windy so neither team could throw. On offense, I just kind of hit people.”

Bell’s wrestling season started slow as he struggled with a knee injury. He ended up placing second at the state meet at 285 pounds.

After scoring three technical fall victories at the state meet, he was pinned by Eureka’s Wes Bank in the final period in the title match.

The match was deadlocked at 0-0 heading into the final period.

“I just shut down,” Bell said of not performing his best in the title match. “The moment got a little too big for me. We were both a little nervous.”

Highlights of the wrestling season included earning the divisional championship. Bell pinned Baker’s Logan Scherman in 5:25 for the title.

“It was fun,” Bell said of his senior year in sports.

He will continue his athletic career with Carroll College’s football program. Bell expects to play defensive end.

“I need to keep my eye on the prize and stay focused on football,” Bell said of playing for the Fighting Saints.
