Lady Wolves Fall To Fairview, 47-33


Wolf Point’s girls’ basketball squad enjoyed some offensive highlights before losing by a 47-33 against District 2B opponent Fairview on Friday, Jan. 24.
A pair of three-pointers by Keeley Blount-Henderson sparked the Wolves during the opening quarter. Carly Buxbaum hit a three-pointer near the end of the period as the Warriors held a 14-11 lead.
Wolf Point moved ahead 17-16 when Brenna Blount connected on consecutive three-pointers midway into the second quarter.
The visiting Warriors responded with the next 10 points on two three-point shots by Macy Tjelde and two jumpers by Gracelynn Free for a 26-17 advantage. Kashlyn Speak Thunder made a free throw to cut the gap to 26-18 at the half.
Fairview opened the third quarter with six straight points, including four by Free, to gain a 32-18 lead. Another three-pointer by Blount and a pair of free tosses by Caitlyn Wilson closed the margin to 32-23. Buxbaum drove in for a hoop to put Fairview up 34-23 at the end of the quarter.
Wilson hit a 14-footer to kept the Wolves close at 3829 with 6:11 left, but Fairview struck for the next seven points.
Top scorers for Wolf Point included Blount with nine, Blount-Henderson with eight and Wilson with seven. Also scoring were Speak Thunder with five and MaKenzie Jackson with four.
Leading Fairview were Tjelde with 17, Buxbaum with 16 and Free with 10 points.
The Wolves will head to Glasgow on Friday, Jan. 31, and host Scobey on Saturday, Feb. 1.
