Cowboys Outscore Brockton, 65-40
Culbertson’s boys’ basketball squad got back on the winning track with a 65-40 home victory over Brockton on Saturday, Jan. 11.
Ahead by only an 11-10 margin, the Cowboys accounted for the last nine points of the first quarter on a layup by Bridger Salvevold, a free throw by Mark Kirkaldie, a 16-footer by Brooks Solem, a steal and drive by Gavin Deen and a pull-up jumper by Plenny Williams.
In the second quarter, Solem hit a three-pointer and Deen accounted for a steal and layup to put the margin at 28-12.
With the score at 28-14, the Cowboys struck with a three-pointer by Solem and a basket by Salvevold en route to a 33-18 half-time advantage.
Culbertson increased its lead to 50-28 in the third quarter.
Salvevold and Solem led the Cowboys with 16 points each. Also reaching double figures were Williams with 12 and Kirkaldie with 10 points.
Rounding out the scoring were Dawson Bergum with four, Deen with four and Aden Drake with two.
Top scorers for Brockton were Colter Nygard with 14 and Josh Firemoon with 11 points.
Also scoring for the Warriors were Quannah First That Walks with five, Tefton Bear with four, Kameron Rattling Thunder with two, Weston Lambert with two and Ronnie Blackdog with two.
