Bainville fought off Froid/ Lake, 48-40, in District 2C boys’ basketball action in Froid on Saturday, Jan. 11.

The Bulldogs held a 2925 lead entering the fourth quarter and used a threepoint shot by Seth Pacovsky to get off to a good start in the final period.

After a three-pointer by Rowan Wilson and a basket off a rebound by Carter Pacovsky increased the margin to 36-28, the Red Hawks responded with a drive by Rylan Young. The Bulldogs built a 42-32 lead on baskets by Parker Berwick and Reed Winn.

Down by 10 points with about two minutes to play, Froid/Lake kept battling back. Cody Olson fired in a three-pointer with 1:53 left. Carson Kelm then connected from three-point range for a 44-40 game.

The Bulldogs held Froid/ Lake scoreless the rest of the way. Bainville scored the final four points on free throws by Isaiah Bjorge and Winn along with a steal and layup by Evan Anderson.

Top scorers for Bainville were Wilson with 16 and Berwick with 13. Also scoring were Bjorge with eight, C. Pacovsky with four, Winn with three, S. Pacovsky with two and Anderson with two.

Leading the Red Hawks were Young with 19 and Kelm with 10 points. Also scoring were Joseph Robertson with six and Olson with five points.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 9-2 lead and held a 12-5 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

After a 19-12 half-time deficit, the Red Hawks outscored Bainville by a 13-10 margin in the third quarter. Young hit three three-pointers and had 11 points in the period. Bainville’s Wilson connected on two three-pointers and had eight points in the quarter.
