New Homes Arrive To Help Wolf Point’s Housing
Two new homes arrived in the community last week thanks to the work of the City of Wolf Point and the Great Northern Development Corp.
Funds came from a grant from the Montana Department of Commerce through the assistance of GNDC.
“It’s just exciting to have them here,” Tori Matejovsky, executive director for GNDC, said. She explained the homes, to be located on Custer Avenue near Southside School, were purchased through a Community Development Block Grant with COVIDrelated funds.
She said the federal funds were made available through the state to communities.
“It’s important that we wouldn’t have the funds if the state didn’t apply for it,” she noted.
Matejovsky said the housing could be used for individual families, schools or health care. She said the city will decide which direction it wishes to take. If an individual is interested in purchasing one of the three-bedroom homes, they must complete a homebuyers education course.
Wolf Point Mayor Chris Dschaak said, “The hope is to sell it to a tax-paying entity to put the lots to the tax roll.”
Dschaak said the city needs to research all the regulations regarding how to sell the properties.
“They will be set next week in the locations,” Dschaak said of the homes last Wednesday. “Hopefully, soon after that, we can set the asking prices.”
Profits made from the sale must be put into other efforts to provide additional efforts in Wolf Point.
