Alan Linder
Alan Dean Linder, 87, of Scobey died Sept. 10, 2024.
He was born May 1, 1937, in Navajo Community to Myrtle (Foss) Linder Omang and Arnie Linder. He was the fourth of six children.
After his parents divorced, Myrtle and the children moved to Scobey. There began his stellar work ethic. In his early years, he worked for Charlie Harris, an early contractor in Scobey, then Ernie Gamp, a local farmer.
He met Florence Donna Grove Linder in 1952 and they were married in 1957 in Wolf Point. Together, they had four children, Julie Willford of Titusville, Fla.; Shelly Dickinson of Scobey; Darryl Linder of Odessa, Texas; and Aaron Linder of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
In 1964, while the first the children were ages 7, 6, and 4, the family traveled to Aden, Arabia (now Yemen), and then Tunis, Tunisia (Africa), for Alan’s job as head driller for Western Geophysical. Upon returning to the USA in 1967, they lived in various states, including California and Alaska, in a total of 28 separate moves.
He retired from Western Geophysical in 1973 and the family moved to Scobey. He then worked for the Daniels County Road Department and worked his way up to supervisor, retiring in 2002.
He enjoyed attending all extracurricular activities that his children and grandchildren participated in and he kept an immaculate yard and workshop in the garage. During winter, he enjoyed woodworking in his shop in the basement and playing cards with the family (until he hit a losing streak, wherein he promptly burned the deck of cards in the wood stove).
