Bainville Outscores Red Hawks, 75-39
After both teams kept exchanging points in the first half, the Bainville Bulldogs took control in the second half for a 75-39 conference football victory over Froid/ Lake on Saturday, Sept. 7.
The Red Hawks held a 2520 lead until Bainville’s Rowan Wilson hit Isaiah Bjorge with a 26-yard touchdown pass with 4:15 remaining in the second quarter. The Bulldogs added another touchdown in the half after recovering a bad snap at the Froid/ Lake two. Bjorge ran in for a touchdown with 3:41 left in the half. Wilson connected with Bjorge on a conversion for a 33-25 margin.
The Red Hawks were stopped on their first possession of the third quarter on strong defensive plays by Bjorge, Keagan Vaira and Haedyn Wills. After a 25yard connection from Wilson to Vaire produced a first down at the seven, Wilson hit a wide-open Bjorge for a touchdown. Wilson passed to Wills for the conversion to put the margin at 40-25.
Froid/Lake attempted to answer as the running and passing of Joseph Robertson put the ball at the Bainville two with a first down. Defensive plays by Trevor Robertus, Wilson and Kaston Hofer kept the Red Hawks out of the end zone. Bainville struck quickly on a 72-yard pass from Wilson to Bjorge for a 46-25 advantage.
The Red Hawks got their offensive attack going when Robertson connected with Teegan Fossum on a 48-yard play to the Bainville three. On the next play, Eddie Orozco scored to cut the margin to 46-31.
The final score of the third quarter came on a 13-yard dash by Wilson with 49 seconds left. Wilson passed to Parker Berwick for the conversion and a 53-31 lead.
Bainville increased the gap to 61-31 on a 19-yard run by Wilson with 8:55 remaining. Austin Eveland kicked the conversion.
Froid/Lake answered on a touchdown on the ensuing kickoff by Robertson. A 38-yard pass from Wilson to Berwick gave the Bulldogs more points. Wilson passed to Vaira on the conversion for a 68-39 margin.
Bainville’s final touchdown was scored on a 56-yard pass play from Wilson to Bjorge with 6:52 left in the conference contest. Bainville’s Kyn Beery and Froid/Lake’s E. Orozco each had interceptions in the game’s final minutes.
The Bulldogs opened the contest by driving 47 yards for a touchdown. On a fourth-down play, Bainville reached the end zone on a seven-yard pass play from Wilson to Bjorge.
Froid/Lake came right back on the running of Roberto Orozco and E. Orozco. A three-yard dash by E. Orozco tied the game, 6-6, with 6:31 left in the first quarter.
The Bulldogs were able to move back ahead on a 17-yard run by Wilson. The junior passed to Wills for the conversion at the 3:18 mark.
After R. Orozco made a great kickoff return down to the Bainville 10, E. Orozco scored to pull the Red Hawks to 13-12.
A 14-yard pass Wilson to Vaira accounted for Bainville’s final touchdown of the opening quarter. A pass from Wilson to Wills put the margin at 20-12.
Froid/Lake’s E. Orozco broke loose for a 29-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter to close the margin to 20-18.
Bainville’s next possession ended on an interception by Rylan Young. The Red Hawks moved into Bainville territory on the running of R. Orozco, Robertson, E. Orozco and Young. A 38-yard pass play from Robertson to E. Orozco accounted for a touchdown. E. Orozco threw to Robertson for the conversion and a 25-20 lead.
Bainville will host Richey/ Lambert while Froid/Lake plays home against Plevna on Saturday, Sept. 14.
