Toavs Withdraws From Election
Long-time Roosevelt County Clerk of District Court and Superintendent of Schools Jeri Toavs has officially withdraw from the 2024 general election.
Toavs resigned from the positions on July 8, citing health issues for her decision. At that time, she indicated on social media her intentions to stay on the ballot but dropped out Wednesday, Aug. 7.
Erika Fyfe, a former employee in both the clerk of district court and county attorney’s offices, is now the lone candidate for the position on the ballot.
After resigning from the position in July, Toavs wrote to county commissioners, “I have enjoyed my job the last 25 years as a deputy and then clerk for the last 10 years. I wish you all well and if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out, I am willing to help.”
Toavs was hired by then clerk of district court Patricia A. Stennes to be her deputy clerk of court in 1999. When Stennes retired in June of 1014, Toavs was appointed clerk of district court/county superintendent of schools by the Roosevelt County commissioners. She has been re-elected to the position every four years since 2016.
