Chiropractors Celebrate 20th Year Of Coming To Area
For the 20th year, a group of chiropractors came to the Fort Peck Reservation to hold a fun day prior to the start of the school year. The about 15 chiropractors held an event in Poplar on Thursday, Aug. 8, and in Wolf Point on Friday, Aug. 9.
Even though it’s been going on for 20 years, there are no signs of the activities slowing down any time soon if the enthusiasm of first-time participant Chris Handy of Massachusetts is any indication. He was really treasuring his time on the tour.
“It’s a very small fee to be here compare to the benefits we give,” Handy said while in Wolf Point. “I had to jump at the opportunity.”
As well as having fun with the students, the chiropractors distributed bags of food to elders.
“Giving out food makes them warm in their hearts,” Handy said. “These people see that we care.”
The Chiropractor Fun Days are part of the Love Has No Color program. Love Has No Color is dedicated to wiping out extreme hopelessness on Native American reservations across the country. Love Has No Color is a partnership with the Assiniboine/Sioux Tribes.
The day included a band playing, face painting, a jumping house and a weight pull contest. The band consisted of chiropractors plus one or two local musicians.
“We found a bass player from the community and we have a special guest on the drums,” Handy said.
Fort Peck’s Health Promotion/ Disease Prevention program hosted activities including archery and horseback riding.
Along with coming for a fun day prior to the start of the school year, the chiropractors distribute gifts to area students during the Christmas holiday season.
