Local Band Enjoys Playing Together, Performing In Area
As a special attraction to Wolf Point’s fireworks’ celebration on Thursday, July 4, the local band After Midnight performed as residents prepared to watch the show up in the sky.
Band members include Bobby Hopkins, Robert Blackdog, Lane Dehner, Jess Kirn, Chrissy Parker and Marva Chapman. Blackdog resides in Fort Kipp while all the other band members are from Poplar.
Chapman said the band has been in existence since 2019.
“Jess, myself, Robert and Jess’ dad kind of started talking about having a band,” Chapman said. “You know how these musicians are. They can’t stop. We will probably all end up playing in the nursing home.”
Thursday marked the third time that After Midnight performed prior to the fireworks’ display. Chapman explained that fireworks’ organizer George Blount approached them about providing the musical entertainment.
“We play a little bit of everything,” Chapman said. “We play country and rock. We love Creedence, that’s for sure.”
Other performances have included wedding receptions, family nights, bars and birthday celebration. They played at a street dance in Poplar earlier this summer.
“It went well, It always does,” Chapman said.
She explains one thing that makes After Midnight unique is the friendships between the band members.
“We’re like a family for sure,” she said. “We get along well. We have a good sense of humor.”
Each of the band members share duties including performing vocals and preparations prior to shows.
“It’s all fun until setting up and unloading and loading,” Chapman laughed.
