Bulldog Supporters Booster Club Works For Improvements

It was only the beginning of July, but the Bulldog Boosters in the Park event had Bainville residents thinking about the school on Wednesday, July 3.

The fund-raising activities included hamburgers, hot dogs, a silent auction, a raffle and games.

One project that profits will help support is an update to the school’s weight room.

Bainville Superintendent of Schools Darin Hannum said, “A lot of the machines are old. The boosters have a good crew who are looking to update the weight room.”

The school district has committed $50,000 over a five-year span to improve the weight room, but booster club member Jessica Berwick said about another $30,000 needs to be raised to complete the second phase of the project.

A long-term goal for the school district and booster club is adding lights at the football field, but with that expense, officials agree that it isn’t part of immediate plans.

Hannum is thankful how active the booster club has been in Bainville. The club paid for a basketball basket in the school’s side gym last year. Boosters have also been big supporters of the school’s Business Professionals of America and FFA programs.

“They have been awesome,” Hammum said. “Anytime there’s a school-based meal needed for FFA or anything, they come and serve.”

The club holds pay membership fees for FFA and BPA members. This past school year, they brought in an author to speak to elementary students. Funds might also help purchase a kiosk to highlight students’ accomplishments and provide information.

“Some booster clubs are mainly athletics, but the one here likes to spread things around,” Hannum said. “It’s been a nice addition to what they have been doing.”

The superintendent is pleased that Bainville’s enrollment is holding steady with about 170 students.

“It’s just stable,” Hammum said.
